Romanians working abroad and traveling home for the Easter holiday this year have boosted sales of  flight tickets to Romania by six times compared to a regular period of the year, according to data from online travel agency Vola.ro.

Unlike years ago when Romanians opted to spend their Easter holiday abroad, travelling to various European destinations for city breaks and short holidays, in 2016 the most significant trend noticed at Vola.ro was the increase of the number of Romanians coming home by plane, according to company representatives. As expected, most flights were booked from countries where there are large communities of Romanians such as Italy, Spain, UK or the USA and Canada (for intercontinental flights).

The average prices of a round-flight to Romania is EUR 275, about 18 percent higher than that of a flight from Bucharest abroad, according to the same source.

Romanians traveling abroad this Easter have mostly chosen city breaks with an average duration of up to four days. Rome, Milan, London and Paris are the most popular destinations for an average cost per holiday of EUR 490, up from EUR 470 last year, according to Vola.ro.
