After the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker hinted on the possibility of ending the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (MCV) in Romania by 2019, Corina Cretu, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, said that it “would be a step forward towards consolidating Romania’s integration into the union,” according to a press release from her cabinet.
Furthermore, she called it a project that Romania “has been working on for a long time and, finally, it would be well-earned victory, given the efforts [the country] has made.”
Also regarding Romania’s fight against corruption, the country was previously praised by the European Council’s anti-corruption body (GRECO) in a report from last month. Moreover, Romania ranked 58th out of 175 countries on the Corruption Perception index (CPI) published by Transparency International earlier this year, improving from 2014 when it occupied the 69th place on the index.
