British newspaper Daily Mail sings the praises of Bran Castle in a picture-ridden article published on its website on Tuesday.
Bran Castle – which perches on a dramatic hilltop near Brasov in central Romania – has long been linked to the toothsome vampire. Constructed in the early 14th century, it is open to the public, who are able to peer into its creaky rooms and dark passageways”, the author notes.
The article makes efforts to point out that not only did Dracula not exist, ever, but the Irish writer Bram Stoker never actually visited Romania when penning his masterpiece. On the other hand, even the current owners of Bran Castle note that the association between their property and the famous horror character proved to be very profitable over the years, even if it does lack legitimacy.
“The imaginary depiction of Dracula’s Castle from the etching in the first edition of “Dracula” is strikingly similar to Bran Castle and no other in all of Romania”, the article writes.
Daily Mail also notes that despite the musings of historians and literary academics, Bran Castle is one of Romania’s most popular attractions, with over half a million tourists a year.
Earlier in the year, another British paper, Daily Telegraph, stated the castle famous for being Dracula’s home is going to be sold for an undisclosed amount in the near future, “if the right person makes an offer”. Later, Corin Trandafir, legal representative of the Habsburg family, denounced the rumors.
