The European Commission (EC), the executive arm of the EU, reimbursed EUR 2.6 billion in the year to date for EU funded projects developed by both the public and private sector.

The largest share of the reimbursement of EUR 726 million was made under the Regional Operational Program, while the Operational Program for Human Resource Training received over EUR 625 million. The EC reimbursed EUR 514 million and over EUR 511 million under the transport and environmental program, respectively. Finally, over EUR 196 million were reimbursed for the operational program enhancing economic growth.

“The reimbursed funds to Romania this year, of over EUR 2.6 billion, prove the efficiency of the implemented measures, which allowed the restart of payments by the EC for all the programs that used to be blocked, and also ensuring payments to beneficiaries,” said Eugen Teodorovici, minister of EU funds (MEF).

According to the MEF, Romania has taken out EUR 4.8 billion worth of EU funds to date, taking the absorption rate to 25 percent. Another EUR 5 billion are pending reimbursement approval from the EC.
