Romania received EUR 141.5 million on Monday for the EU-funded Human Resources Development Program (POS DRU), which was unblocked earlier this month.
The European Commission blocked this program in August 2012 over fraud concerns regarding funds used in the 2009-2011 period. Three sectorial programs focusing on regional development, transport and economic competitiveness remain suspended.
‘The restart of payments for the European Commission ensures the necessary resources to get payments back on track, so the program development returns to normal,” said Eugen Teodorovici, European Funds minister. In the near term, he aims to unblock the remaining programs.
Romania has 2,455 ongoing financing contracts on the POS DRU, which has a total budget of EUR 3.4 billion.
