The Senate voted on Wednesday that Good Friday will become a non-working public holiday starting this year, with 86 votes in favour of the proposal, one against it and one abstention.
The Chamber of Deputies is the decisional chamber on this bill, which was initiated by UDMR and supported by MPs from all parties.
In the motivation for this bill, the initiators note that the European Commission established public holidays for EU institutions at the beginning of last year, and Good Friday was among them.
This year, Good Friday falls on April 6. The following Monday, the second day of Easter, is also a public holiday.
