Romanian tennis player Simona Halep was convincing and unforgiving in the women’s final against Dominika Cibulkova, notes Mutua Madrid Open. 1 hour and 20 minutes past for the Romanian player to win with 6-2, 6-4 victory in the Manolo Santana Stadium, with the roof closed due to rain.

“Now I have more confidence in myself” said Halep on court, “this win will help me believe more in myself”, added the Romanian, who succeeds Petra Kvitova as the tournament’s champion.

The victory means that Simona Halep has her first title of 2016, the twelfth of her career, and will now climb to fifth position in the WTA rankings. Before this tournament, Halep was the world number 7. Since the beginning of the year, Simona Halep has fallen from second to seventh place in the WTA ranking. It is also her first win in the Caja Mágica after the three-set defeat to Maria Sharapova in 2014. The victory in Madrid will bring Halep 1,000 WTA points and take her back to the top 5, weeks before the French Open at Roland Garos. Simona Halep also gets a check for EUR 912,000 from former Romanian tennis player Ion Tiriac, who owns the Mutua Madrid Open.
