PM Dacian Ciolos to attend Romania vs. France alongside Hollande, Valls

Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, currently on an official visit to France, will attend the opening match of the Euro 2016 at Stade de France, opposing the Romanian national team and that of the host country, France.

According to a message posted by Ciolos on his social media page, the PM attended the last training session of the Romanian squad, prior to tonight’s match. “They are brave young men, who are participating for the first time in an international competition of such importance. I was keen to encourage them and to tell them that we all eventually in such circumstances where we must represent our country at a national level and this one doesn’t learn at home,” Ciolos wrote on his social media account.

“I am certain that the support and trust they receive will help them have a good match,” the Romanian PM said, adding that he will show his support from the stands, where he will watch the match together with his French counterpart, Manuel Valls and President Francois Hollande.

According to reports by local media, at the Stade de France there is an unprecedented security operation involving more than 90,000 police, soldiers and private guards.

As part of his two-day official visit to France which debuted on Thursday, June 9, Ciolos took part in an OECD meeting chaired by OECD Secretary General Abgel Gurria. He is also scheduled to meet students ad professors of the Ecole Polytechnique in Palaiseau, near Paris, as well as those of the French Academy of Agriculture. Ina addition, the Embassy of Romania will host a meeting between the Romanian PM and the two orphaned children of the Romanian couple killed in the November 2015 Paris attacks.

On Friday Dacian Ciolos announced that the French President has accepted the invitation to visit Romania and will make an official visit to Bucharest in September.
