President Klaus Iohannis granted the Order of the Start of Romania, the highest civil order, to several members of the US Congress during a special ceremony that took place in Washington.
The members of the congress received the distinction for their ongoing efforts to enhance the strategic partnership between Romania and the US.
“Romania is the best partner that the US can have. It is also encouraging to always seek new opportunities to enhance the security of the two nations and countries. (…) I know I can count on you! You should know that you can count on us,” Iohannis told the American officials.
The Order of the Start of Romania was granted to Michael Turner, co-president of the Friendship Group of Romania in the US Congress, David Nunes, House Intelligence Committee Chair, Mike Rogers, House Strategic Forces Subcommittee Chairman, Jackie Walorski and Robert Aderholt, both members in the Friendship Group for Romania.
President Iohannis is set to hold a joint press conference with his American counterpart Donald Trump on Friday, at the end of his diplomatic tour in the US. Iohannis will also met with the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
