The Bucharest Autonomous Transport Agency (RATB) opened three tenders for the installation of air conditioning systems in 259 trams and 100 buses Astra Irisbus, estimated at EUR 20.2 million, without VAT. In 13 trams Bucur, the installation of air conditioning systems will be finished until December 31, according to the program.

For the other vehicles from RATB lot, the deadline was established for 2 years since the contracts’ assignment. The offers for the three tenders will be opened in the second part of November. RATB has a tender in progress for the modernization of 150 buses and focuses on installation of air conditioning systems. The contract is estimated at RON 11.04 million, without VAT.

Only the joint venture formed of Astra Vehicule and Astrabus subscribed in the tender. In August the Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea said that out of the approximately 1,000 buses that RATB owns, only half of them have air conditioning systems and that “that would be the last summer in Bucharest where there isn’t a civilized drive.” Currently not all buses from RATB lot have air conditioning systems. On the other hand, there are drivers who refuse to open the air conditioning due to the budget constraints of RATB.

The Bucharest Mayor Office has in development the acquisition of 400 buses with air conditioning systems. The acquisition, started for the second time, is estimated at over RON 510 million and will be fully financed from the local budget. According to the Bucharest Mayor Office, the first procedure was canceled due to a technical issue.
