Telecom operator RCS&RDS is currently in discussions to take over Prima TV channel, said Catalin Tolontan on his blog.
Prima TV is owned by SBS Broadcasting, which took over the channel from founder Cristian Burci in 2005.
SBS currently has broadcasting operations in Belgium (Flanders), Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, The Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Sweden and the United Kingdom. SBS is controlled by funds advised by two leading private equity firms, Permira and KKR. Telegraaf Media Groep N.V. (TMG) of the Netherlands is also a shareholder in SBS, with a 20 percent equity interest.
In Romania, SBS Radio has two radio stations, Kiss FM and Magic FM. Besides these, SBS also owns two TV Stations, Kiss TV and Prima TV.
RCS&RDS is promoting its own content via dedicated TV channels, available for its subscribers, such as Digi 24, Digi World or Digi Life. On this topic, Valentin Popoviciu, business development manager at RCS & RDS previously told BR that “launching new channels is always an open subject” but currently “no such thing is in the plans.”
