Romania plans to block solar installations on arable land

Agriculture minister Daniel Constantin said on Monday that authorities are currently working on a bill that would block the development of photo-voltaic parks on arable land.

The minister didn’t put a figure on the size of arable land impacted by renewable projects but said the legislation will be changed.

“It’s a matter of days until the legislation will be changed and the set up of solar panels on arable land will not be allowed any more,” said Constantin, quoted by Agerpres newswire.

Last month, Constantin Nita, the energy delegate-minister, said this measure could be included in the emergency ordinance that aims to scale back the support for renewable producers.

Romania reached 118MW of incentivized solar installations by March, according to grid operator Transelectrica.
