Romania was ranked on the 13th place, out of a total of 18, in the Central and Eastern European region in a ranking that monitors data traffic from mobile gadgets.

Data traffic from smartphones and tablets reached 9 percent in June 2014, compared to just 1 percent in January 2011, according to data from Polish research company Gemius, quoted by Mediafax newswire.

Romania still ranks below the European average as far as data traffic from mobile devices are concerned, which at the moment stands at 10 percent.

The first states in the CEE ranking were Croatia, which stands at 21 percent, Lithuania, at 18 percent, Slovakia at 17 percent, Serbia at 16 percent and Macedonia at 14 percent.

The last five places are held by Bulgaria, with 9 percent, Russia with 9 percent, Belarus with 6 percent, Ukraine with 5 percent and the Moldova Republic with 1 percent.

“Due to the increasing number of mobile devices, the consumers’ behavior has become more and more complex, and the habits of using the internet differ depending on the device. During the week, 52 percent of the PC traffic is generated during working hours while during the weekend, the traffic is generated in the afternoon and in the evening,” according to the Gemius press release.

Both in Romania and in the CEE region, Apple is the most popular producer of tablets, as 71 percent of the traffic in Romania was generated from iPads.

On the smartphone market, Samsung is leader with 45 percent of the smartphone traffic being generated from Samsung devices.
