Romanians spend 15 pct more y-o-y on market services in November 2015

The turnover for market services provided to the population, gross series, registered an year-on-year increase of 15 percent according to a report from the Romanian National Statistics Institute (INS) published Thursday. In the same report, INS also said that the turnover for wholesale and retail, the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, gross series, experienced a 13.7 percent year-on-year increase in November 2015. 

The 15 percent year-on-year increase registered in November 2015 for the turnover for market services provided to the population, gross series came from rises in the activities of travel agencies and tour operators (34.5 percent), the activities of hotels and restaurants (20.8 percent), hairdressing and other beauty activities (19.1 percent) and activities related to the washing, cleaning and dyeing of textiles and furs (0.5 percent), says INS. A decrease of 0.9 percent was registered in the turnover for gambling and other recreational activities (0.9 percent).

In November 2015, the market services provided to the population, adjusted series according to the number of working days and seasonality, increased by 14.7 percent year-on-year, further details INS. When looking at a monthly comparison between November 2015 and October 2015, however, the turnover for the market services provided to the population, gross series, decreased by 5.3 percent due to a fall in the activities of washing, cleaning and dyeing of textiles and furs of 8.9 percent, followed by a decrease in the activities of hotels and restaurants of 8.6 percent.

As for the performance of the first eleven months of 2015 compared to the same period in 2014 in the two industries, there was an increase of 9.4 percent in the turnover of wholesale and retail, the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, gross series, said INS, and the market services provided to the population, gross series, registered a turnover increase of 8.4 percent year-on-year.

As for the wholesale and retail trade, the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, the increase came from a 56.4 percent increase in the trade of motorcycles, spare parts and related accessories; the maintenance and repair of motorcycles, followed by a 22.7 percent increase in the trade with motor vehicles, an 8.3 percent increase in the maintenance and repair activities of motor vehicles, and an increase of 4.0 percent in the trade with spare parts and accessories for motor vehicles, according to INS.

When adjusted to the number of working days and to seasonality, the turnover in the automotive sector increased by 1.9 percent in November 2015 y-o-y.

Looking at the monthly change, the turnover for wholesale and retail, the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, gross series, increased by 0.3 percent in November 2015 compared to October 2015, says INS, registering a decrease of 0.9 percent in the turnover for the maintenance and repair activities of motor vehicles.
