The coal production of Romania went up by 6.8 percent to 1.461 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) in the first four months of this year versus the same period of last year, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Imports of coal, meanwhile, fell by 28.9 percent to 116,700 toe, in the same period.
According to Romania’s draft energy strategy, Romania has total brown coal reserves of 12.6 billion tonnes in Oltenia mining basin. Around 2.2 million tonnes of coal are in the Valea Jiului area.
