Romania’s construction sector activity falls by 7.2 pct in H1 despite residential boom

The construction works in Romania lost 7.2 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period of last year, due to the decline of activity on infrastructure by 22.6 percent and non-residential buildings by 11.6 percent, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Meanwhile, the construction activity in the residential sector soared by 72.4 percent.

Compared to the first half of 2017, maintenance works lost 24.6 percent, while the activity on capital repairs fell by 21.9 percent.

Works on new constructions gained 2.2 percent year-on-year.

Last year, the construction works fell by 4.8 percent.
