Voestalpine Steel Service Center Romania, part of the Austrian group Voestalpine, opened a steel processing center in Giurgiu, following a EUR 20 million investment. The construction of the center was started in 2010 and was financed through the European Regional Development Fund (FDER) and by the Romanian government through the Sector Operational Program for the Increase of the Economic Competitiveness.
The new center has a usable surface of 9,500 sqm and an output capacity of 130,000 tons of processed steel board. The raw material will be brought in from the Voestalpine site in Linz, Austria.
“This location is a strategic one for our plans to have rapid and efficient access to markets in Romania and South-Eastern Europe, because of the direct access the plant has to railroads, roads and shipping routes,” explained Stefan Einfalt, project manager and member of the administration board of Voestalpine Steel Service Center Romania.
