According to reports, Romanian tennis player Simona Halep and her main sponsor, Adidas, could be parting ways. The info was not neither confirmed, nor denied, by Virginia Ruzici, the player’s manager, but sources say the two parties have not managed to find a common ground when it comes to the financial terms of their collaboration.
As reported by Tennis.life, the reason why the contract could end on the eve of Halep’s debut at a Grand Slam as WTA No. 1 is a combination of bad timing and a gap in the evaluation of Halep’s worth.
According to the website, the two parties could not agree on the figures they each found appropriate for a WTA No.1 player. Romanian businessman and former ATP player Ion Tiriac, Tennis.life believes, was involved in negotiations on Halep’s side.
As reported by welovetennis.ro, the German sponsor could not continue its contracts with both Halep and WTA No.2 player Garbine Muguruza, given the high financial obligations involved.
According to Tennis.life, as all sports companies have already spent their 2018 sponsorship budget, Halep finds herself in a rather difficult situation, having to find a clothing sponsor by the start of 2018.
The Romanian player is scheduled to play several exhibition matches between 23-24 December in Thailand, so perhaps she will already sport new clothing.
