„A Mere Breath”, directed by Monica Lazurean-Gorgan, has claimed the Best Documentary Film Award at the Heart of Sarajevo Film Festival (August 12-21).
According to the film’s official synopsys, the film explores „seven years in the life of Sicrea family, capturing the trials and tribulations of Dobrin, his wife Lia and their three children. Dobrin is waiting for a miracle to happen, to enable his youngest daughter to get up from her wheelchair and walk”.
„A Mere Breath” captures the deeply contradictory nature of love in family life and represents both a „journey of initiation, as well as a religious parable” (…) „As we watch his children grow up and become adults, we witness the deep impact of Dobrin’s close connection to God on relationships between members of his family,” the festival’s website reads. The feature, a co-production with HBO Europe, is produced by Monica Lazurean-Gorgan through production company Manifest Film.
„This film won our hearts and mind because it managed to bring to life the most important features of a documentary. In her approach, the director proved to be very meticulous. She shows compassion towards her characters, as well as humour and warmth and manages to recount a complex love story within the tight boundaries of a family,” the jury’s motivation reads.
