ANAF gets fine for publishing debts of Romanians

The tax authority ANAF has received a fine of RON 16,000 after it published online the debts of over 187,000 individuals.

The National Authority for the Supervision of Personal Data Processing (ANSDPDCP) issued the sanction because the tax agency published the data on a website that did not belong to the ANAF and because it did not inform the individuals that got on the list.

The ANAF had published on May 16 the list of individuals that had debts bigger than RON 1,500 to the state budget as of March 30.

Previously, the tax authority had published the list of the biggest companies that had debts to the state budget.

Some of the individuals that had the biggest debts were District 3 mayor Robert Negoita and Ombudsman Victor Ciorbea.

Businessman Theodor Berna was also on the list with RON 7.9 million. George Becali had debts amounting to RON 3.9 million, which were challenged in court, the same as Silviu Prigoana.

The ANAF said it would challenge this sanction, claiming it did not not breach the law.
