Steel mill ArcelorMittal Galati has finalized an investment of EUR 1.2 million at two of its sintering machines, which included the building of a quick lime injection unit. This allows the steel mill to use cheaper ores without affecting the quality of the hot metal.

The construction works were completed by a Romanian company in six months and the project design was made by specialists from Galati and sister units of the Group.

„ArcelorMittal Galati continues its program to improve the performance of its hot flow,” said Bruno Ribo, CEO of ArcelorMittal Galati. „The investment in the quick lime injection unit will consolidate our sinter production capacity, as well as improving productivity and will lead to a significant cost reduction, which is crucial in the current economic environment”.

The new injection facility is now operational and will reduce costs by using an increased level of concentrates instead of expensive ores.
