The local mobiles accessories market exceeded 10 million units in 2017, according to Avenir Telecom, one of the main distributors of mobile phones and telecommunication services in Romania.

The estimation takes into account the number of smartphones sold in 2017 (close to 4 million units), every new acquired phone generated the acquisition of at least two accessories. To these are added the mobiles already existent on the market, that generate additional accessories acquisitions such as foils and protection cases.

“The consumers started to choose mobiles with a higher value, due to the offers and grants of the operators and retailers, such as acquisition in installments and subscriptions. With expensive mobiles, users are more and more interested in their protection. As the consumer behavior changed and the users saw the advantages and utility of the accessories, it was created a beneficial context for the qualitative accessories, “ says Costin Soare, operational director at Avenir Telecom, the local subsidiary of the French Group  Avenir Telecom SA.

Another tendency that offers opportunities on the accessories market is the change in usage of a smartphone, which is now used more for Internet browsing. It implies a higher energy consume and the need for accessories such as auto chargers and external batteries.

The accessories market for mobiles was supported also by the big smartphones producers at global level that increased the interest in accessories, but also by the GSM retailers who focused on lower prices strategy in Romania, compared with the prices from the neighbouring countries.

In Romania, Avenir Telecom operates one of the biggest GSM retailers, Internity, with a national network of 51 stores. Internity offers the products and services to the mobile operator Telekom Romania, as well as an expanded range of mobiles and accessories GSM under the brand Energizer.
