Borc: Exports represent the main economic growth engine in Romania

The vice-prime-minister Costin Borc, the minister of Economy, explained the necessity of exports development and promotion intensification for the local economy.

„I personally believe that exports represent one of the main engine of economic growth, because there’s a direct and positive correlation in exports evolution and the the GDP. Not least, during the economic crisis, the role of exports was decisive,” said Borc.

He also referred to the exports registered in 2015 and the perspectives for the current year, to the exports sustainable development projects via an efficient organization of trade promotion and foreign investments, to the dialog efficiency with business environment importance in diversification actions, profitability and simplification of Promotion and Exports Program.

„Last year, for example, the exports FOB of Romania were EUR 54.6 billion, with 4.1 percent higher than the total volume of exports from 2014, which represents an absolute historical record. This trend was maintained also in the first four months of 2016, the exports increase being 4.4 percent compared with the same period of 2015,” said the minister.

“Moreover, the Romanian external services trade had a positive dynamics, registering around EUR 7 billion in 2015. Regarding the diversification and geographic orientation, the Romanian external trade was developed mainly in the European countries (86 percent from the total exports and 89 percent from the total imports) and this inter-community trade framework had a contribution of 76.1 percent to the export and 78.1 percent to imports,” added Borc.
