Bucharest recorded 49 pct spike in electricity consumption on Saturday over heat wave

The electricity consumption increased by 49 percent last Saturday in Bucharest, compared with the same day of the previous week, due to the heat wave that hit the Romanian capital, according to the representatives of E-Distributie Muntenia.

„Thus, the total consumptiuon in Bucharest was 938,59 MW, compared with 626,03 MW on June 24,” says the utility firm.

According to the representatives of E-Distributie Muntenia, in certain power transformer stations, the consumption growth was around 80 percent, on July 1 compared with June 24.

Thus, the consumption in Balta Alba station went up by 77 percent from 16.2 MW to 28.7 MW and in Toporasi the consumption climbed by 86 percent from 25.9 MW to 48.4 MW.

On Saturday, Bucharest and 19 counties were under red code of extreme temperatures during 10:00-21:00.
