Cars registrations in Romania down by 2,490 in Q2

The new cars registrations went down in the second quarter of the year compared with the first quarter by 2,490, but increased by 66 percent compared with the same period of 2016, up to 147,9076 units, due to the elimination of environment stamp since February 1, according to the data of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In 2016, there were registered 396,538 cars in Romania, up by 19.4 percent compared with 2015, according to News.ro.

In the first semester of this year, some 298,304 new and second-hand cars were already registered.

In the first quarter of this year, car registrations rose by 74.4 percent compared with the first quarter of 2016 to 150,397 units. In the second quarter of this year compared with the same period of 2016 the segment of buses and micro-buses, auto-trucks and  trails segments decreased, with a lower share in the overall registrations.

The segment of mopeds and motors increased by 17.4 percent in the second quarter up to 2,969 units and the buses and micro-buses registrations went down by 10 percent to 601 units. The merchandise transport registrations climbed in the second quarter by 8.7 percent to 28,721 units. The INS data include the new and second-hand cars registrations.

According to the Association of European Cars Constructors, in the first semester the new cars registrations in Romania increased by 27 percent compared with the same period of 2016, the highest increase from EU.
