Newsroom 26/02/2018 | 17:18

The German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania) organizes on Tuesday, 27th  of February 2018, the sixth edition of Cities of Tomorrow, starting 9:00, at the JW Marriott Hotel, Grand Ballroom Hall, in Bucharest.

„Cities of Tomorrow” is nationally renowned as a reference event dedicated to the urban and regional development and this year’s focus lies on urban regeneration. 325 participants from the public and private sectors are expected.

The event will be attended by two special guests from Germany: Dipl.-Ing. Hans-Jürgen Best, City Manager of Essen, and Tilman Buchholz, Deputy Head of the Urban Development Department of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.

„Cities of Tomorrow” is a public awareness-raising conference on sustainable development, reconversion and revitalisation of Romanian regions and cities, on the tasks and roles of actors from the political sector, the business environment and the civil society, on the development of rural and urban infrastructure, on city management, on the integration of central and historical areas of the city, but also of peripheries and much more.

Urban regeneration by means of industry and tourism is the topic of the central panel during the first part of the conference. Together with Georg Pammer, General Manager of Aspern City Smart Research, we will discover how an old abandoned airport was converted into the greenest and smartest district of Vienna.

Like Vienna and other European cities, cities of Romania are faced with the challenges of urban revitalisation. This is a continuous, difficult and long process, and the trends and chances of a city to become a „magnet” will be presented by Marcel Heroiu, Senior Urban Development Specialist World Bank, starting from the study „Magnet Cities”.

The two presentations will be the backbone of the panel moderated by Arch. Hildegard Brandl, Managing Partner UnitH2B, – a discussion on the current situation of Romania’s cities, what makes them attractive to important investors, how they can attract workforce and the importance of life quality for inhabitants of Romanian cities in 2018, together with the mayor of Reșița, Ioan Popa, Tatian Diaconu, CEO Immochan Romania, Christian von Albrichsfeld, CEO Continental Romania, Arch. Eugen Pănescu, Founding Partner Planwerk, and Arch. Tamina Lolev, Managing Partner nod makerspace.

We will continue the concept of the World Café, which will give the participants the opportunity to a higher degree of involvement during the discussions on different topics and projects. The goal of the round tables is to provide applied and concrete solutions, which can be implemented by the participants in their own projects. After the interactive discussions, the conclusions of each round table will be presented during the debriefing at the end of the event.

The best solutions will be judged by the participants, in real time, using the Eventlink platform, and the winning table will be rewarded.

Once again, the event will host a marketplace in the foyer, where sponsors will have the chance to present their technologies for the modernisation and streamlining of regions and cities. Furthermore, representatives of public authorities will be present in the marketplace with concrete projects they are planning to implement and for which they are looking for support of private actors. This year, the cities in the marketplace are: Cluj-Napoca, Reșița, Sibiu and Siret.

The conference is designed to provide useful information and new insights for: city mayors,  city managers,  representatives of regional development agencies and metropolitan areas, representatives of city and county councils, Romanian and foreign private companies, professionals in urban planning and architects, real estate investors and developers interested or based in South-Eastern Europe, real estate professionals, representatives of chambers of commerce and industry, representatives of industrial clusters, technology providers, urban infrastructure and utilities companies, NGOs and banking professionals.
