Romania could attract some EUR 100 million in EU funds through retroactive assistance, the Ministry of Communications and Informational Society announced.

Ministry representatives met today with the press to present its actions connected to the 2014-2020 budgetary execution and also identified possibilities of attracting further investments for the 2007-2013 budgetary execution projects.

The degree of fund absorption at the end of March of the EUR 338 million allocated by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) stood at 102.4 percent (EUR 346.2 million ERDF). About one third (31 percent) of absorption was conducted between November 2015 and April 2016, during which time a total of 258 requests for refunds have been reviewed and approved. The requests totaled approximately EUR 131.39 million (of which EUR 108.54 million ERDF).

Accessing retroactive funding from the EU for the programming period 2007-2013 may bring to the state budget a further EUR 50 million. Retroactive assistance means the granting of EU assistance by a management authority for projects whose costs have already been covered from national sources or have already been completed prior to the assistance request.

For the 2014-2020 budget the total value of grants will reach EUR 116 million, of which some EUR 98 million will be provided through EU funds. There is a number of 220 projects awaiting evaluation and preliminary results will be published by the end of April on the dedicated website.

Projects that may be funded come from SMEs that are registered and operating in Romania, either individually or organized in partnerships type cluster or consortium and whose activity is centered on ICT. By providing this funding, the aim is towards developing products and services based on innovation.
