Over 70 percent of Romanians have made less shopping or bought cheaper products this year, reeling under the effects of the crisis, according to a survey carried out by Mednet Marketing Research Center.
Of the 72.2 percent of the Romanian population who cut down on their consumption, 46.3 percent bought the same products in smaller quantities, 10 percent bought cheaper products in the same quantity while 15.9 percent bought cheaper products in smaller quantities.
The number of Romanians who did not alter their shopping behavior remained roughly the same from one year to the next- 22.5 percent this year compared to 22.8 percent in 2010.
The financial crunch affected Romanians differently: some said they are affected by the growth in prices (59 percent), others by salary cuts (47.9 percent), the loss of the work place (18.6 percent), the growth of the installments because of the RON depreciation (15 percent), the loss of benefits (13.8 percent).
The survey was made on a sample of respondents in Bucharest and cities with over 100,000 inhabitants between December 7-12.
