Local winemaker Cramele Recas saw sales volume go up by 33 percent in 2011 against the previous year after boosting exports by 133 percent. Domestic sales grew by 10 percent y-o-y.
Ciprian Rosca, the company’s sales manager said Cramele Recas managed to grow against the fact that overall, the market reported an average decrease of 10 to 12 percent annually for the past two years. The company’s turnover amounted to EUR 18 million in 2011.
In addition to the seven ranges of wine the company produces, it also sells imported brands like: Masi, Planeta, Piccini (Italy), Robert Mondavi (USA), Louis Latour (France), Thomas Hardy (Australia), Nobilo (New Zeeland), Distell (South Africa), Cono Sur (Chile) and Gonzales Byass (Spain).
The company’s own products are priced between RON 10 and RON 90 per bottle while imported wines cost between RON 16 and RON 350.
Cramele Recas cultivates around 800 hectares of vineyards in Timis county and another 20 hectares near Arad, Western Romania. The winemaker has a production capacity of 9 million hectares per year. It exports to the USA, Great Britain, Japan, Sweden, Canada, Estonia and Slovakia.
The Romanian wine market is estimated at EUR 350 million. Other large local producers are Murfatlar, Vincon, Jidvei, Cotnari, Halewood and Tohani.
