Electric and hybrid cars sales double in Romania in the first 8 months of the year

The sale of electric and hybrid cars in Romania reached 571 in the first eight months of the year, double compared with the same period of 2015, according to data from Producers and Cars Importers Association (APIA), says Agerpres.

During January-August 2016, the 100 percent electric cars sales represented 0.8 percent of the total new cars sold at national level, a growth of 0.4 percent compared with the data from the first eight months of the last year.

The APIA statistics shows that in August 169 green cars were sold, a growth of 77.9 percent compared with the previous month.

In the top of the most “green” auto brands sold during January-August the first place is occupied by Toyota, with 391 units (+118.4 percent compared with the first eight months of 2015), followed by Lexus (105 units), meaning +238.7 percent, BMW (23 units, compared with no sold unit during January-August 2015) and Land Rover (11 units), with a growth of 26.7 percent.

APIA data shows that during 2015, the number of new electric and hybrid cars sold in Romania was 495 units, more than double (110) percent), compared with 2014, when 236 units were sold.

At general level, the national cars production registered a total of 240,005 units in the first eight months of the year, a decrease of 6.5 percent compared with the same period of 2015, while the sales had an increasing trend, up to 87,447 units (16.1 percent).

Also, according to APIA, the individuals/companies ratio showed that the main engine of cars sales was represented by companies, with 70 percent of the total.
