The European funds reduction is a negative signal, because we live in a world where we have to prove solidarity to persons in need, says the European commissioner for regional policy, Corina Cretu.
The decision taken on Wednesday by the EU member states was to introduce a co-financing quota of 10 percent for reconstructions works as a result of natural disasters instead of accepting financing of 100 percent based on European funds, according to the Italian press agency ANSA.
The proposal of changing the regulation for the European fund for regional development (FEDR) was forwarded since November 2016 by Corina Cretu, who believes that now “the member states might think that today is about Italy, but in the future will be about any other country,” says the source.
„We don’t change the rule only for one state, but also for all the states that in the future will face some natural disasters. I hope that after the negotiations between the Council and European Parliament will come back to our proposal of financing of 100 percent for reconstructions,” said Cretu.
