The first Romanian – Swedish Chamber of Commerce opened in Cluj-Napoca on June 16. The Romanian-Swedish Regio Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture was inaugurated in the presence of Swedish Ambassador to Romania Anneli Lindahl Kenny.

The event coincided with the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. I am glad to be present at the inauguration of the Romanian-Swedish Regio Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and that the event takes place in Cluj – Napoca. We are glad about the development of bilateral relations. I wish good luck to the new Chamber of Commerce,” the Swedish ambassador told the audience attending the opening at the Casino building in the Central Park.

The Swedish diplomat also praised the level of cooperation between Romania and Sweden at government level as well as between parliaments and between the civil societies and student communities in the two countries.

The Romanian chair of the Romanian-Swedish Chamber of Commerce Anca Ciubancan stated that the aim of establishing the new organization is to promote Romanian companies in Sweden and to attract Swedish investors to Romania. In addition, Ciubancan said, the newly-established entity, which has 12 founding members, aims to develop social projects.

In Sweden the problem of the Roma is quite a major one and we are trying to integrate them in Romania. Another goal of the Chamber is precisely that,” Ciubancan explained. Starting September, Bucharest will also have a Romanian-Swedish Chamber of Commerce, followed by Timisoara and Iasi, she added.

The event was attended by Cluj-Napoca Mayor Emil Boc, Chairman of the Romania-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group Senator Alexandru Cordos and several other officials and representatives of the business environment. There are over 60 Swedish companies currently operating in the Cluj area.
