The Interministerial Committee for Competitiveness (CIC) has started collecting relevant data in order to fulfil the five priorities set in the National Competitiveness Strategy. CIC aims to concentrate its activity through a government initiative for competitiveness.

CIC has begun discussions dedicated to intelligent specialisation strategies, supporting the potential for innovation, research and reorientation of industry towards emerging branches and services and towards international markets.

Intelligent Specialisation or RIS3 represents a new strategic approach to economic development through prioritising financing of research and innovation.

The Economy minister, Gheorghe Simon, highlights the importance of identifying concrete measures for competitiveness, in order to support and develop the Romanian business environment:

“The purpose of this initiative is to launch an organised, rigorous and well-targeted dialogue platform for the relevant representatives of the private sector, the public sector and civil society. We are especially targeting innovative and successful Romanian companies”.

The general objectives of CIC’s working groups include: identifying Romania’s competitive advantages in each sector; identifying the major problems and priorities in each sector; identifying the innovative Romanian companies in each sector; increasing their productivity; developing value chains; increasing the competitiveness of Romanian products; identifying public policy to support companies and encouraging innovation and technology transfer; promoting measures to attract foreign investors; aligning the education system to the current and future needs; developing Romanian clusters and entrepreneurship; digitalisation.
