Horia Neagu at GPeC: SEO must have clear objectives

Speaking at the GPeC Summit on May 18, Horia Neagu, Digital Marketing Consultant, highlighted a number of guidelines for SEO good practices to be implemented by businesses across different sectors.

According to Neagu, when contracting a SEO specialist, a client should set clear goals to be achieved. “SEO must have clear objectives. I want more traffic is not OK. I want a 20 pct growth in traffic for my page, that is a good objective,” he pointed out.

Neagu also stressed the increasing importance of video marketing. “Video is very popular for desktop and phone.” Also, useful content is becoming viral of late, he told the audience. When posting videos, the most important thing to keep in mind is the text, namely posting content for SEO. “When posting on youtube, make descriptions that are SEO optimized. They should be structured and organized. Take as an example gaming clips and those posted by vloggers, which have keywords and links to external websites.

When dealing with an online shop, there should be a well-optimized page description, however the list should be as high as possible, and the description should be placed below.

The process of link building should be continuous and organic, because Google detects peaks of activities and pauses and classifies it as spam. Guest blogging is also an option, as Google does not necessarily appreciate that.

Do not ignore social media, he warns. SEO and social media activities are linked, so do not leave it to the social media team.

SEO offers long time traffic growth, while Adwords offers immediate traffic increase. However, when you close the tap, it decreases, so it is not sustainable, he warns.

There are two metrics, traffic and ranking. Measuring should be done daily, but it also depends of the competitiveness of the niche and the average frequency of posts.

Instagram is important, according to Neagu, but not as relevant as Pinterest and should be used as a complementary channel. Local SEO is important, he pointed out, as Google sees things at a local level. It is important to have a .ro domain, and for the server to be Romanian.
