International Wine Contest Bucharest: 450 medals awarded at this year’s edition

The International Wine Contest Bucharest 2016 has announced its winners during a special gala that was organized in early June.

The gold medal went to a Romanian wine (Tamaioasa Romaneasca 1975, made at the Pietroasele Station) and a wine from Moldova (Chardonnay 2013 Botrytis, made by Château Vartely).

The most popular dry white wines were: Rigid ELM Sauvignon Blanc 2015 from Wine Union JSC, Bulgaria and Pinot Grigio de Purcari 2015, Moldova.

The most popular dry rose wines were: C’est soir Rose (Cabernet Sauvignon) 2015 from the Lungu Domains, Romania.

The most popular dry red wines were: Encore Syrah 2012 of KATARZYNA ESTATE LTD, Bulgaria and St. Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 of Wakefield/ Taylors Wines, Australia.

Romania got 187 medals, which is 41.5 percent of the total awards.

The best wine importer was named VINEXPERT, which got 8 gold medals and 7 silver medals.

“The IWCB fulfils its mission of being an entity that ranks and promotes quality wines, to the benefit of both consumers and producers. Regarding the evolution of the contest, we are planning to roll out improvements that are accepted by the International Organization of Vine and Wine in the assessment process. In addition, we are glad to contribute to the return of Romania in the superior league of wines, in terms of production and market,” said Catali Paduraru, the CEO of IWCB.
