President Klaus Iohannis warned on Wednesday in Suceava that Romania might not receive cohesion funds in the next financial cycle.

According to President Iohannis, Romania might not benefit from cohesion funds from the European Union as it did between 2014 -2020. The causes, he argues, could be the reduced absorption rate of cohesion funds and Brexit.

My opinion is that this budget cycle is the last where there will be as many funds for cohesion as there are now. Given than Brexit is a reality, given that we had a weak absorption, I believe we will not have this kind of funds in the future. Even more so, the money we have now to use and to boost their effect by the proper funding via PNDL,” Iohannis said.
