Romanian businessman Dan Adamescu has grave health issues and might lose his life, according to his daughter-in-law Adriana Constantinescu.

Adamescu has been in jail since May, when he got a jail sentence of four years and four months being accused of bribing judges.

Constantinescu said that Adamescu is currently treated in a private hospital, after a knee surgery, but that he got a lot of infections behind bars and now his life is in danger.

“Last week he started to feel bad, on Friday he felt really bad. Starting yesterday he is not responding to any treatment, he has septicemia, they intubated him because he was not responding to any stimuli,” said the woman, according to Mediafax newswire.

Constantinescu added that Adamescu’s sister was not allowed to get in hospital, to see him, although doctors said that “only a miracle can save him”.

Adamescu had asked judges later this year to let him get out of jail sooner because of his age and due to the fact that he was already investigated while in preventive arrest. However, the court rejected his request and he will be allowed to ask for this measure again next year.

The billionaire, whose insurance firm Astra went bankrupt, is suffering from 15 disease, according to the PR of his family.

In 2015, Forbes estimated that his fortune amounted to around EUR 550 million.

Adamescu’s son, Alexander Adamescu, is also accused of bribery by Romanian authorities.
