JazzTM: A show to remember with jazz legend Dee Dee Bridgewater

I don’t know if the English language has enough appreciation adjectives in order to insert all of them here, this is how impressed I still am after the show offered by the jazz legend Dee Dee Bridgewater on the last day of JazzTM. But what I can tell for sure is that it’s a good thing she closed Sunday night’s lineup, because I’m really wondering who would dare to follow all this?

“For some artists, no stage is too big, no venue too large, no audience too huge,” states Chicago Tribute while reviewing one of her concerts. And they are perfectly right.

With hundreds crowding the permanent seating area at the Victoriei Square and hundreds more on enjoying her show from the edges, Bridgewater managed to electrify the audience. As expected, she can shift from the sensual to the sacred, offering something very close to what magic represents. She mixed old songs with new ones, she promoted her trumpeter Theo Croker, she talked about how powerful are Romanian women just by looking at them on the streets. She was simply amazing, delivering an almost two hours show, giving us a large variety of feelings, from pure joy to deep thinking to ourselves. While singing, she provides a continuous sensation of goose bumps and thrills.

And she’s not alone. She travels the world with a great band who gives you an entire range of feelings. An absolutely amazing performance was offered by her drummer Kassa Overall, who astonished the audience with his solo. Not to mention the trumpeter Theo Croker, whose music is literally timeless and of-the-moment.

But what really surprised me was the fact that Dee Dee Bridgewater invited on stage, with her, during her show, The Twisters, more precisely four Romanian girls who started playing jazz not too long ago. Of course, their singing was perfect and the song was pretty energizing, and Dee Dee just took a seat on the stage to watch them, film them and encourage them. I’m wondering how many music legends are doing this kind of thing on stage nowadays. And I think we already know the answer: very few.

What’s for sure is that JazzTM managed to jazz up the west. The lineup of this fourth edition was amazing and all the artists were pretty incredible. Over 24,000 participants were in the audience for this festival. Next year, maybe you can book your holiday in advance for a jazz relaxation moment: the festival will be held between June 30 and July 2.
