Shachar Shaine took over from departing president Igor Tikhonov, Ursus Breweries president, whose mandate lasted for one year.

The proposal received from partners in the Brewers of Romania Association to take over the presidency, this year, is an honours and a pleasure at the same time. I want to thank my predecessor, Igor Tikhonov, Ursus Breweries president,” Sachar Shaine said. „Developing beer culture in Romania represents one of the objectives of the Brewers of Romania Association, projects developed in time, talking to Romanians about this extraordinary drink made from natural ingredients, about the many ways in which it can be enjoyed, as well as about the positive economic impact each glass of beer has on the Romanian economy. I glad that together with partners in the Association I have the opportunity to keep on building towards this, so that beer produced în Romania can occupy the same privileged place on the tables and in the hearts of Romanians” Shachar Shaine, Brewers of Romania Association president said.

Shaine has an experience of over 17 years in marketing and sales in the FMCG sector and in planning industrial projects.

Starting with January 2017, Julia Leferman was appointed as the associations’ director general.

I feel honored by being picked for this position, the more so as now I can say I am part of a large family, that of beer producers in Romania. The fact that I joined the Brewers of Romania family represents a beautiful professional challenge, given how much Romanians love beer. Brewers of Romania Association functions at high standards […] and my role will be that to keep it to this level, with a clearly set objective: that to promote and develop a responsible and sustainable beer industry in Romania. The association will remain, at the same time, the same partner of open and constructive dialogue on any topic connected to the beer industry in Romania,” Julia Leferman, Brewers of Romania Association general director said.

According to the association, beer production remains an important economic factor, in particular due to the fact that over 97 percent of the beer consumed in Romania is produced locally, and over 70 percent of the raw materials used to make it care sourced locally. Consequently, the beer sector, directly and indirectly, over 84,900 jobs.
