M&A alert. Wienerberger Romania buys bricks plant in Buzau

Bricks manufacturer Wienerberger Romania has taken over the bricks production business of Search Chemicals for an undisclosed sum.

The transactions included the firm’s assets and a clay quarry.

The bricks plant in Buzau was controlled Turkish businessman Omer Susli. The factory had entered conservation mode in 2011 and restarted operations in 2014 at reduced capacity.

Wienerberger said it was looking to modernize the plant so as to increase its presence in the country. It added the current staff would undergo training.

Corneliu Fecioru, managing director sales & marketing at Wienerberger Romania, said that this acquisition of part of the firm’s strategy to improve its production position and to further support the development of the residential sector.

Law firm bpv Grigorescu assisted the buyer in this deal.
