Mantor Group, a Romanian construction company with a Spanish shareholding active in the Romanian constructions sector, has started renovation works on a historic building in Bucharest. Located in Piata Amzei, the building is known as ‘The house of Mita Biciclista,’ and will need an EUR 4.5 investment.
Works are expected to be completed in 2018. “In the process of consolidation and renovation of the building all roof elements and fireplaces with historic value were preserved. The framing and the walls were consolidated across the entire building, and the wood work of the monuments was fully restored, and there is a 50 percent recovery rate of the wooden floors. Moreover, the building was insulated, including for the wooden structures,” Tomas Manjon, Mantor Group co-founder.
“It is a complex projectm which needed repeated changes and the participation of a large team, which included both the general entrepreneur, the architect, the structure engineers, as well as an assistant architect, specialised architects, designers, sculptors, restaurateurs […] and other participants,” Francisco Calleja, ANDEMER representative said.
The building, which features an Art Nouveau facade, was built at the beginning of the 20th century, after a project by architect Nicolae C. Mihaescu and last renovated in 1980. The edifice is a symbol of Bucharest also due to its famous inhabitant, courtesan Mita, nicknamed ‘Biciclista,’ due to the fact that she was, reportdely, the first woman to ride a bike in the city.
