Bucharest’ mayor Gabriela Firea says that Bucharest will put up for debate the masterplan for integrated waste management until the end of April, which stipulates the responsibilities regarding waste, as well as the sanctions applied in case they are not respected. The document will include also the previsions regarding the waste from constructions.

“ I wouldn’t like to be the kind of person who announces sanctions, fines, before offering solutions. Firstly, we have to find solutions, to be within reach both for institutions, as well as for citizens, to collect selectively. For the moment, the systems are empirical, we are at the beginning. The efforts will be higher to recover these gaps,” says Firea within the forum “Waste management in Circular economy”.

She adds that the document will also include previsions regarding the waste from constructions, because there are some districts with “mountains of waste”.

„It’s important to know what to do with this waste from constructions and demolitions, because we see how the city is degraded, the pollution level increases, because there is no clear regulation: What happens and which are the responsibilities for constructions and demolitions. We’ll have clear references to dangerous waste, including from healthcare. In all civilized countries there is an important emphasis on recycling of this waste,” said Firea.
