Entrepreneurship could be one of the country topics proposed by Romania during the country’s 2019 presidency of the Council of the European Union, Minister for the Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship said in an interview for Romanian news agency Agerpres.

The minister mentioned that the first act he signed as a minister was that for the creation of the Advisory Committee for Entrepreneurship. “In the Advisory Committee for Entrepreneurship we have a total of over 50 organizations of the business environment. […] this advisory committee is placed right under the position of Minister, so that all laws, all our actions will be decided within this committee,” which will meet on a monthly basis.

Next, Jianu noted that the Ministry for the Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship will launch in May the program ‘Romania national Start-up’, projected to be “the most ambitious and strongest program made after the 1989 Revolution” and aims to impose entrepreneurship as a country theme for the upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU.

I must stress that we will launch theRomanian Start-up National Program,” which is the most ambitious, most powerful program made after the revolution of 1989. A program that will fund 10,000 start-ups annually, with an amount of up to EUR 50,000. This measure is included in the governmening program. “Romania Start-up national” was presented to the public public. Is a program that will rank Romania as an extremely attractive country for development of start-ups,” the minister said.

According to Minister Jianu, Romania’s Presidency of the Council of the EU should be connected to entrepreneurship, “because for the first time after 27 years, entrepreneurship is included in in the title of a ministry, but not only in the name, but especially in the ministry’s approach and I would like us to impose entrepreneurship as a country theme during Romania’s presidency, because this topic has not been tackled by any other country so far. Romania is building its advantages on purpose to approach things like this,” Jianu said.
