Minister of Energy: Romania remains key partner for the development of Moldova

Newsroom 26/08/2016 | 17:52

Romania remains the same key partner for the future development of the Republic o Moldova, and the energy sector is a very important one,” Minister of Energy Victor Grigorescu stated on an official visit to Moldova.

We discussed during the Chisinau visit with deputy PM Octavian Calmac, as well as with other officials about the concrete steps necessary to advance with the building of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipe. We want, at the same time, to operationalize an interconnection for electricity.

We are supporting the conclusion of a new contract to provide natural gas to Moldva. This year we brought Romanian gas to Chisinau and I see this as a very important sign for the outlook of future collaborations,” Grigorescu added.

According to the Ministry of Energy, several Romanian companies are interested in the Moldovan market, both state companies as well as private ones. “I am happy that over the Prut River the program of privatization is continued and I wish it to be managed in a manner that can attract those strategic investments that Moldova certainly needs.”

Alongside privatizations, the improvement of the business climate in the past months is an important step. I am convinced that the initiatives to this purpose will also continue in the upcoming period,” the minister added.

Trangaz and Vestmoldtransgaz, the national oil company of Moldova, have signed a natural gas interconnection agreement. The signing took place in Chisinau during a meeting of the Romanian-Moldovan workgroup active in the sector. On behalf of the Romanian side the document was signed by Ion Sterian, President of the Council of Administration of Transgaz Romania and on the Moldovan side by Iurie Dolghier, administrator of Vestmoldtransgaz. The agreement sets the general principles of cooperation between the two system and natural gas transport operators, in particular towards the development of the project for the interconnection of the natural gas systems between Romania and Moldova.
