New apartments up by 11 pct in 2016 to 52,206, the highest level of the last 7 years

The number of new apartments went up by 11.1 percent in 2016 to 52,206, this being the highest level recorded over the past 7 years, according to the data published today by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The North-West region reported the highest increases, meaning the counties from Northern Transilvania, as well as the North-East region.

In 2015, 46,984 new apartments were delivered, compared with 42,589 apartments in 2014, 40,071 apartments in 2013, 42,566 apartments in 2012, 4,456 apartments in 2011, 48,812 in 2010 and 61,101 apartments in 2009, according to News.ro.

Out of the total number of apartments built in 2016, 27,881 apartments (53.4 percent) were in urban areas and 24,325 in rural areas.

The Bucharest- Ilfov region led the ranking of the regions with the highest number of new apartments (10,022), followed by the North-East region (8,926) and North-West (8,658).

“The reappearance of financing funds for the finished apartments shows that in 2016, compared with 2015, the number of apartments made with private funds increased by 5,291 apartments and the number of apartments from public funds dropped by 69 apartments,” says an INS release.

However, the highest increases in the built apartments number compared with 2015 were registered in North-West region (2,491)and North-East (1,262), while in Bucharest the number of finished apartments dropped by 1,060 in 2016.
