President Iohannis passes law repealing ordinance 13, approves ordinance 14

President Klaus Iohannis passed on Friday two laws, the first repealing the controversial emergency ordinance 13/2017, which partially decriminalized abuse of office, and the second approving ordinance 14/2017.

According to the Presidential Administration, the Romanian head of state signed the decrees for the promulgation of the Law on repealing of Government Ordinance no. 13/2017 for amending and completing Law no. 286/2009 on the Penal Code and Law no. 135/2010 on the Code of Criminal procedure on the promulgation of the law approving the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 14/2017 on the repealing of Government Emergency Ordinance no. 13/2017 amending and completing Law no. 286/2009 on the Penal code and of Law no. 135/2010 on the Code of criminal procedure.

President Klaus Iohannis announced on Thursday, at the investment ceremony of the four new ministers, that he would issue the laws repealing ordinance 13/2017 and approving odinance 14/2017.

“I will promulgate these laws tomorrow (Friday), and then we have met all conditions,” for the situation to go back to normal,” he head of state said at Cotroceni Palace. The Romanian Parliament adopted this week draft laws on rejecting the repealing of ordinance 13/2017 and the approval of 14/2017.
