RCS&RDS is to introduce gradually 4G services on the 2100 MHz wavelength starting October 20. The reason behind the change is the fact that up until now RCS&RDS was providing 4G services on the 2600 MHz wavelength, which is not used by many smartphones.
RCS&RDS was providing 4G LTE services on the 2600 MHz wavelength (TDD) thanks to the license obtained last year from 2K Telecom. However, since not many smartphones use it, the company announced it will launch 4G services on the wavelength most smartphones operate, the 2100 MHz wavelength.
Digi Mobil users in Oradea and Pitesti will be the first to be given access to the 4G technology and by January 2017 in major cities, namely Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Brasov, Craiova, Constanta, Iasi, Arad, Sibiu, Galati, Targu Mures, Satu Mare, Ramnicu Valcea, Drobeta Turnu Severin, Resita, Slatina, Hunedoara, Valea Prahovei as well as the zona Rasnov, Zarnesti, Moeciu si Bran areas.
The first stage of the new project will run until June 2017 and will also include the Black Sea coast, until the 1100 stations will be up and running. The company also continues the extension of the Digi Mobil network on the 2600 MHz, up to around 1000 until the end of the year.”
The company also said that “access to the 4G services will be made both on the 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz (1wavelength and 38 LTE).
