Over a quarter of the Romanians don’t intend to use mobile banking services, taking into account that the usage share of mobile banking is around 22 percent, which places Romania on the last position in Europe.

According to EY, in the last years, the “digitalization” trend global level transformed the consumers’ preferences and contributed to the creation of high expectations regarding the services delivery.

„The financial service area accessed through mobile is situated on the digital iceberg tip. In the next two to five years, we are expecting to see big changes at global level regarding the way in which the banking operations are functioning, while the telecommunication suppliers and the financial institutions will use the mobile as growth platform, ” says Aurelia Costache, financial services advisory leader EY Romania.

The ‘mobile first’ generation is the one that will access this platform as main interaction method.

In this context, Romania is on the last place in Europe in the number of persons using the mobile banking services, according to a study made by Ipsos. The research shows that more than 25 percent of the Romanian respondents say that they don’t intend to use this kind of service in the next year.

In comparison, approximately 74 percent of the people at EU level use mobile banking services, while in the US this figure reaches 53 percent, says EY.

“On short and medium term, both the traditional financial services and the mobile type will co-exist. In the future however, there’s an integrated approach from all market players – telecom, financial institutions, applications developers, technological platforms vendors, which is essential for the capitalization of the current success of financial services developed through the mobile platforms intermediary and for its growth rate, ” adds Costache.
