Romanian investment fund collapse fugitive arrested in Jakarta

Popa was sentenced to jail along with Ioana Maria Vlas over the collapse of the National Investment Fund. The Romanian authorities have initiated proceeding to have the fugitive returned to Romania where he will serve his sentence. Romania and Indonesia have a cooperation agreement regarding extraditions.
In June 2008, Vlas, Popa and companies SOV Invest and Gelsor were ordered by the Bucharest court to repay about RON 60,000 to investors in the bankrupt fund.
