Romanian Luciana Lixandru takes partner role at venture capital powerhouse Accel

Romanian Luciana Lixandru was named partner at Accel, one of Europe’s largest venture capital firms which has invested in Facebook, Dropbox and Spotify.

According to TechCrunch.com, Lixandru was previously principal investors at Accel and is only the third female partner at the fund.

She helped lead Accel’s investments and ongoing work in Avito, Catawiki, Wallapop, Deliveroo, Algolia, Doctolib and Vinted, and was previously an investor at Summit Partners, according to a presentation on the fund’s website.

Lixandru was born in Romania and is a graduate of Georgetown University.

She started working as an analyst for Morgan Stanley in 2007 and from 2009 to 2011 she was associate at Summit Partners. She joined Accel in 2011, according to her LinkedIn profile.

The Accel partner sits on the boards of several start-ups in which the VC has invested such as British carwow, which is active in the car-buying segment, and Deliveroo, the technology company focused on marketing, selling and delivering of restaurant meals.

According to the Financial Times, Accel has backed groups including Swedish music streaming site Spotify, Finnish game developer Supercell and French ride-sharing group Blablacar. Each of these start-ups are unicorns, meaning they have valuations above USD 1 billion.

The fund has teams in the United States of America, the UK and India.
